Barbara appeared on one of the first STARCADE! shows taped ... the seventh show we taped which became Show #4 when it aired. At the time, Barbara was a Business & English high school teacher. She didn't set out to be a contestant on STARCADE! It was her son Bob who wanted to be a contestant. She brought Bob and her other son to STARCADE! auditions and all tried out. She was the one chosen to be a contestant ... and she was one of our best players ... winning it all. Games: Super Zaxxon, Eyes, Jungle Hunt, Pooyan and Ms. Pac Man Grand Prize: Triple Punch video arcade game |
Reason she wanted to be on STARCADE!: "Sounds like fun." Just prior to playing on STARCADE she won third place in a snake race sponsored by local radio station and first place in a Hot Tub Regatta. Prizes won: a Casio VLTone, a Colecovision Computer and the Grand Prize - Triple Punch video arcade game |
Barbara's
STARCADE memory: "My older son, Bob, received a postcard on his (I think) tenth birthday asking for contestants to tryout to appear on
Starcade. It sounded like fun to me, so I told him I would drive him and his little brother, Rick, up to San Francisco for the tryouts. We thought only Bob would be able to tryout. But when we got there, all three of us were invited to give it a try."
"I figured since we were already there and it was more fun that just sitting around, why not? I was the one picked, not Bob ... both my boys got a real kick out seeing old Mom play video games and then I won! What a surprise that was!" |
| When
Barbara checked in, she wrote:
"Being on STARCADE! was fun, and we still laugh about the whole thing ... I would do it again, just for the memory." |
